Welcome to the Friends (Worcester) Social Group
About us ...
Our group is run for the benefit primarily of people who are unattached at the time of joining, enabling them to meet and enjoy social activities together and develop new friendships in a safe and comfortable environment.
The group was founded over 20 years ago and is non-profit making organisation. We have around 100 members, with varying interests and ages (currently from around 40 upwards), who live mainly in Worcester and the surrounding area. We also have links with other similar social groups in Bromsgrove and Redditch and Solihull and we occasionally hold joint events with them. This gives our members the opportunity to widen their circle of friends if they wish to.
We enjoy a variety of different events and activities, please go to our events page for more details.
The day to day running of the group is handled by a committee which is elected by the members at the Annual General Meeting. It is a condition of membership that everyone complies with the provisions of the group's constitution and all new members are given a copy of this on joining the group.
How much are the subscriptions?
Our subscriptions are currently £5 per month, on joining we will ask you to pay 6 months in advance. All monies collected are used for the benefit of the members, some is used to cover administration costs such as production of the monthly programme, and the remainder enables us to offer a number of subsidised events for our members throughout the year.
Are you able to come to some events before joining to see if it's for you?
Yes, we offer a free four week trial period before asking you to join. On your first visit you'll be given a copy of the current monthly programme and we hope that you'll come along to some of the events and pub nights before making a decision.
Everyone who contacts us is invited to come along to one of our regular Tuesday "pub nights". This gives you an opportunity to meet us and see what we're like, it also gives us an opportunity to meet you!! We've all been "the new kid on the block" and so fully understand that for some people it can be difficult at first to socialise with a group of strangers and so members of the committee will always be on hand to welcome and help you.
